About Us

The American Re-EDucation Association (AREA), established in 1982, helps child development and intervention professionals in their work with troubled and troubling children & youth and their families. AREA members are people just like you, dedicated to working with children who have emotional and/or behavioral problems, creating collaborative and supportive relationships with their families, and contributing to the development of a healthier, more effective ecology for each of them.

Through the American Re-EDucation Association (AREA), every member of an agency's staff becomes attuned to the Re-ED principles and practices, enabling them to function as an integral part of a unified team. Social workers, psychologists, educators, therapists and developmental specialists learn to work together in a coordinated, effective way. And, when an entire staff shares the Re-ED philosophy, a foundation of learning and growth is created. This benefits the troubled child and his or her family because a consistent, strength-based, principle-driven message and approach is a mainstay of success.

Staff members also benefit when they are unified in both philosophy and practice. Isolation, hopelessness and exhaustion can drain the most talented and dedicated professionals. Through AREA, members can depend on a true community of caring, passionate colleagues that share, support, energize and celebrate.
